Does air pollution increase electric vehicle adoption? Evidence from U.S. metropolitan areas, 2011–2018

چکیده
We estimate a model of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in 427 the largest metropolitan areas 48 contiguous U.S. states. observe all new battery vehicles (BEV) and plug-in (PHEV) registrations by metro area over 2011–2018 period, we investigate whether EVs is statistically related to multiple types air pollution – long-term as measured ambient PM2.5 temporary events presence wildfire smoke plumes either lower or upper atmosphere. Regression results show that both are BEV PHEV adoptions area.

Distributional Effects of Air Pollution from Electric Vehicle Adoption∗
We examine the distributional effects of changes in local air pollution from driving electric vehicles in the United States. We employ an econometric model to estimate power plant emissions and an integrated assessment model to value damages in air pollution from both electric and gasoline vehicles. Using the locations of currently registered electric vehicles, we find that people living in cen...
متن کاملDoes environmental policy affect scaling laws between population and pollution? Evidence from American metropolitan areas
Modern cities are engines of production, innovation, and growth. However, urbanization also increases both local and global pollution from household consumption and firms' production. Do emissions change proportionately to city size or does pollution tend to outpace or lag urbanization? Do emissions scale differently with population versus economic growth or are emissions, population, and econo...

Air pollution attributable postneonatal infant mortality in U.S. metropolitan areas: a risk assessment study
BACKGROUND The impact of outdoor air pollution on infant mortality has not been quantified. METHODS Based on exposure-response functions from a U.S. cohort study, we assessed the attributable risk of postneonatal infant mortality in 23 U.S. metropolitan areas related to particulate matter <10 microm in diameter (PM10) as a surrogate of total air pollution. RESULTS The estimated proportion o...
